Camps >>  Where To Go and What You Need For Camp

Welcome Summer of Fun-sters and Rookie Campers,

As we find ourselves moments away from what will surely be our best summer yet, here's some information you will need to kick it off properly:

WHERE AND WHEN:

Camp will once again be held within the cozy confines of the BRENTWOOD SCIENCE MAGNET SCHOOL, which is located at the corner of Bundy and San Vicente.

Drop-off in the morning is between 9:15 and 9:30.  We know the kids are up, dressed and jumping on your bed at 6 but with all of us scrambling to get camp up and humming properly it puts extra pressure on us to have the campers gnawing at the gates at 8:45 or 9.

SUMMER OF FUN's entrance is on Gretna Green (one block west of Bundy between San Vicente and Montana) at the gate just north of the school's main entrance.  Pick-up for SUMMER OF FUN will be between 3:15-3:30.   Unless special arrangements are made, please retrieve your camper no later than 3:45.

ROOKIE CAMP - also enter on Gretna Green but closer to San Vicente.  Pick-up for Rookie Camp will be at either 1 p.m. or 3:15-3:30 p.m.

TRANSITION CAMPERS - 6 year olds signed up for Summer of Fun who would like to transition gently to the older camp should enter and sign in at ROOKIE CAMP with Coach Pete.  Once assembled, Coach Pete will lead those campers to the larger lot.

Note:  the transition campers will be signed out at 3:30 from SOF side of the yard.  The program is about transition, keeping the campers comfortable until they are ready to branch out...  For some it may happen in a moment; for others it could take the summer.  We're fine with either.

**IN BOTH SOF AND ROOKIE CAMP, EACH CAMPER MUST BE SIGNED-IN AND SIGNED-OUT BY A PARENT OR OTHER PRE-DESIGNATED ADULT.  NO ONE MAY ENTER OR LEAVE CAMP WITHOUT ADULT ESCORT**

WHAT:

CHECKLIST:  What the well-equipped camper needs each day.

1. A re-usable water bottle.  This year, in an effort to be as "green" as possible, we are trying to cut down on our cup usage.  A re-usable water bottle would help greatly in that regard.  First and last names should be clearly marked.  We will make sure the campers have them with them at all appropriate times and we will have plenty of water with which to keep them filled.

1. Lunch (if not signed up for our hot lunch program).  Both Summer of Fun-sters and Rookies have lunch at camp.  Lunch boxes and backpacks must be labeled.  Last year, the five identical unlabeled Transformer backpacks provided much consternation.

Hot lunch can be ordered now (on our website) or when you arrive at camp.  It's administratively easier for us if we know ahead of time, but we will accommodate you at sign-in.  No child shall go hungry on our watch.

2. Hat (also labeled).

3. Athletic shoes (NO sandals, flip-flops, Crocs or clogs unless packed in the backpack and brought out on water slide days)

4. Change of clothing, extra t-shirt and shorts (for after our daily water-play).  All items should be name-taped or laundry marked.  One look at our Lost and Found will tell you why.

5. Towel (for post-water play comfort).  Also labeled.

6. Sunscreen ONLY if your child has sensitivity issues to commercial brands.  We request that you put on the first coat in the morning.  We re-slather the children everyday at lunch and if they start to turn a little pink.

***PLEASE - NO VALUABLES - LEAVE WATCHES, BRACELETS, NECKLACES and DIAMOND EARRINGS AT HOME.  Rest assured - anything that can be lost, will be lost.

Also - no X-Men, Avatar, Yugioh, Pokemon, Bionicle, Baseball, Basketball, Barbie or other collectible cards.   And please, camp is a PSP-Free Zone so leave them home as well.

On entering and exiting the grounds, do peruse our far too expansive Lost and Found area, if for no other reason than your child's shirts, hats, mitts, shoes (yep, we had several pairs last year!) will most probably be there.

SECURITY:

We go over this with the children every day, but for your edification, this is our mantra:  No one leaves an activity without telling one of the assigned counselors.  No one goes off on his/her own.  No one goes to the restroom, which is monitored all day long, without a counselor escort.

A staff that is ever mindful of its responsibility to our campers and our families strictly enforces these rules.

AND THEN:

·We provide each camper with a camp shirt (Rookies get two).

IN CLOSING:

If you haven't gotten your medical forms back to us please make sure your physician fills them out before your child comes to camp.  The doctor can fax them directly to us at 310-576-1353 or you can bring them with you on your child's first day of camp.

AND FINALLY:

CONTACT INFORMATION:  During the camp day if you need to get in touch with us for any reason, calls can be made to 310-451-4220.

Our tenth year is about to begin...  Thanks for helping us make history.
