Camps
Kids need to be kids. They need to imagine, experience, aspire,
run, jump, kick, play, goof around and blow off steam. They need
room to move, room to grow, room to be themselves. They need to be
taught and they need to learn for themselves. They need the freedom
to fall short and the support to stand tall and the understanding
that both are okay.
It's year nine for Summer of Fun (eight for Rookie Camp) and
we're only just getting started. With our program of innovation and
creativity unmatched by any other camp west of the East, we remain
dedicated to the proposition that a summer should be of the kids,
by the kids and for the kids. In other words..."if I were a kid,
what would I want my camp to be like?" To that end we build
flexibility and variety into our daily schedules, offer multiple
activity choices and stage camp-wide themes.
All of the traditional sports are well-represented: soccer,
basketball, baseball, flag football, hockey, volleyball, track
& field, lacrosse and rugby. Add in arts & crafts,
go-carts, dance contests and water fights. There are
envelope-pushing activities like Human Bowling and Bubble-Wrap Sumo
Wrestling and crowd pleasers like War Ball, Three-Team
Breathbreaker and Snow. We mine the archaeology of our urban past
and teach long-lost skills like baseball card-flipping, jump-roping
and marble-shooting. And I can confidently state that NO OTHER CAMP
has ever staged the Battle of Agincourt (1415) with water guns and
snow saucers. (Often the British still win; occasionally the
French. Always, however, FUN is the undisputed champion.)
The health and happiness of each child motivates us to go the
extra mile in our efforts to inspire, enthrall, stimulate and
entertain. Led by coaches Christian, Cooper, Pete and Tracey, our
brilliant and devoted staff, which returns year after year and
knows every camper by name, provides a safe and secure environment
in which parents can relax and campers can flourish.
If only it were summer all year 'round...
